Elisha says that the season’s about done. “Not much left to do.” She and Dave and Mere were out there early this morning, mostly weeding and mulching — and laughing, as usual, at Mere’s great stories.

In that bed they were working in, this! Beautiful okra bud blossoming!

Plus, another okra growing, “from the top down,” as Elisha says.

Looking around, I ask what is what? Here’s the sweet potatoes, which won’t be harvestable until around the end of the year. But, says Mere, the leaves are edible! (not raw, cook them).

Tomatillos, some already harvested, more to go. Another canning party planned?

Cover crop: I think Elisha said rye and peas, to naturally fertilize the soil in prep for next year’s growing season.

Oh, and BTW, Elisha is still harvesting tomatoes on a daily basis. Another canning party in the offing.

Lots of basil growing here and there. Time for me to make pesto!
