June 7th Work Party: Bean Harvest and Sign Erection

June 7th, Sunday morning, another work party, this one mainly to harvest beans. Elisha taught everybody how to harvest them. Clue: don’t just pull them off; do it carefully, at a certain place, so you won’t have to pull the ends off the beans when you cook them.

Another view of the extremely prolific bean patch.
Wendy and Adeline still hard at work. Marita (Adeline’s mom), Elisha and Mere in background.

And we’re still not done! Elisha has called for volunteers to join her at 5 pm this evening, before our scheduled Thursday potluck Community Dinner which begins at 7 pm, to harvest the rest of the beans.

Meanwhile, check out the squashes.

Oh, and BTW: how do you like the new sign, which Dave installed on the same morning. Huge, informative, and will become more so as time goes on. Already, two new neighbors have asked to join our weekly “work and learn” parties in the garden.

BTW: Gardener Elisha has declared on our Community google doc page and by text to our GroupMe that we should take the hottest month of July off, and work in the cool Overhill house basement to organize it so that it can easily store potatoes and other root vegetables as well as provide a comfy area to retreat to when tornados threaten, in what seems to be continuously tumultuous weather.

Here’s her original design for the main garden 2025, as found on the google doc.

Though the drip irrigation is installed, we haven’t had to use it, given all the rain.

As of today, she notes that our hazelnut tree is producing tiny nuts.

And we DID remove the willows, over a month ago..
