Community Dinner
We were planning on having our twice-monthly Thursday dinner outside on the patio, but: exactly as we were all to gather outside the rain came down. Indeed, poured down. For probably an hour. So we scuttled inside, to Elisha and Dave’s house, 2615 E. DeKist. 15 people there, which later climbed to 17. I asked Elisha to take a few photos. Here they are, some of us grouped around their gigantic table, others across the room. See the woman to the front left? This is Melissa, who drove all the way here from north of Dayton Ohio (five hours) in a car with no AC, just so she could check this place out. I took her on a short tour before we ate, and insisted she stay the night.

Sunday Harvest
Scheduled for 8 AM sharp! I looked over at the group about 8:30, and yes, there they were. What were they doing?

They were listening to Elisha, who was telling them what to look for when deciding which bin to put harvested potatoes: any green spot, or a nick of some kind, not for long term storage.

For example, this one. Has a nick in it.

Everybody dug in . . .

About 90 minutes later, I took some more photos, this time of what was stored today. Not just potatoes, which are in an air-conditioned room behind the greenhouse:

Also, in the greenhouse, onions!

Plus garlic, and an abundance of tomatoes, which we have been harvesting for a few weeks, making sauce out of some and drying the rest.

Here are the cleared onion and potato beds, ready for re-planting, August 1.

I’ll finish with this random flower, bloomed yesterday.
