There is an old elm tree trunk that got the same Dutch Elm disease that devastated millions of Elm trees both in Europe and in America apparently since about 1910. Our Elm tree succumbed about 20 years ago and so I had to have it taken down. What remained we put a top on and then, a few years later, Rebecca (who then lived here, for nine years)) hung a photo of my dear deceased husband Jeff Joel, whose legacy funded this place. We call him “Saint Jeff.”
This spring about a month ago the old trunk finally fractured in two, and then, a few days later, one part of it leaned way way back . . .

But: it’s now temporarily saved, thanks to the efforts of Marcella, Dave and Elisha, who pushed it back together and strapped it. We’ll probably need a chain around it, so this is “temporary”.
As is the tree trunk temporary, as is all of earthly life temporary. All we can do is hope to slow down inevitable entropy.

But . . . it’s spring, and oh my, how everything’s springing up. Both human and plant communities. See next two posts.
