Mid-September 2025: More new Fall plantings plus Goldenrod info

Let’s start with the latter first.

While out in the main garden, I’ve been wondering what the gigantic plant is (getting bigger all the time), and why it hasn’t been taken out. A weed . . . yes?

Here it is, behind Marita, as she works on the new garden (for cabbages).

It turns out, NO. This plant is goldenrod. And Mere (on the right) let us know why it’s good to have in garden.

However, she says,” it is kind of a bully,” and so could be trimmed back some.

Elisha: “Otherwise it will keep spreading?”

Mer: “yes.”

Okay, good to know. Don’t want it to take over.

Meanwhile, here’s the new cabbage bed, plus another one planted recently. Notice there’s lots of chard on the right.

More, ripe for the picking:

Lettuce.

Peppers.

Broccoli is coming along, having survived the harlequin beetle invasion (See last post.)

Today the crew (Elisha, Marita, Mer, Dave, Ben) was joined by Russ, a friend of Elisha’s for fifteen years!

Notice the coverings. That’s to discourage the beetles.
